Veggie garden to benefit elderly

A variety of vegetables were planted such as spinach, peppers, bananas, tomatoes and carrots.

The Port Shepstone Crime Prevention Unit, along with the Youth Desk, Port Shepstone Executive Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Farmers Association observed 67 minutes for Mandela Day at Word of God Centre in Betania.

The centre is a home for senior citizens and the team decided to spend their 67 minutes with the elderly, planting a vegetable garden for them.

Fathima Moosa, chairperson of the CPF said that the Farmers Association was generous in sending Andy Bush to help educate everyone on planting and the advantages of a variety of vegetables.

“We planted spinach, peppers, bananas, tomatoes and carrots. The 67 minutes was well worth it,” Moosa added.
