Unpredictable sea conditions for fishermen
Remember, responsible fishing is keeping the shoreline as clean as possible and abiding by the bag limits.
The recent heavy rains made sea conditions unpredictable at The Block and Sandspit.
Some anglers reported that it wasn’t a good week, but the diehards still gave it a try.
Some non-edible species, such as sand shark, hound shark and hammerhead shark were caught.
Brendon Schutte hooked an 18.3kg hound shark using fresh mackerel. Nathan Pieterse caught a 12.8kg hammerhead shark on a fresh mackerel. Both sharks were released unharmed.
Dylan Preen caught a 17kg cuta on a dead mackerel off his kayak recently, which took him about 10 minutes to land.
A kingfish was caught on a dead shad that was slid out on a sliding trace.
Don’t forget the popular, family-orientated Paddock fishing competition is back and will take place from March 21 to 23. It’s one of the largest family fun weekends on the South Coast and has been held for many years.
There are over 30 fully stocked dams for fishing and over R150 000 worth of prizes to be won. Also, there are loads of lucky draws, including the main cash draw of R5000, as well as two R1500 cash draws.
Tickets cost R80 per person, and every ticket is an entry into the lucky draws. The more tickets you have, the more chances of winning. Arm bands for entrance into the club grounds and dams cost R20 (adult) and R10 (U18).
Camping is R400 for the weekend per tent or caravan.
The briefing will be at the Paddock Farmers’ Club on Friday, March 21 at 19:00. For further information and tickets, contact Elenor Hansen on 083 2935265 or email elenorh@vodamail.co.za.
