Body washes up on Margate beach

Three people have drowned in three separate incidents.

Police search and rescue were called out to a scene at the Margate beachfront on Monday, December 22 at about 18:30, where a body was seen floating in the waves close to the shore.

The man, believed to be aged around 25, has yet to be officially identified by next of kin. An inquest is under investigation at Margate Saps.

In a separate incident, a drowning occurred at Qoloqolo in Hibberdene on December 21.

It is alleged that a was returning from a function when the he slipped and fell into the Gubhugubhu river.

His body was recovered the following day. An inquest was opened at Hibberdene Saps.

In another incident, the body of a man (43), was found in a river near KwaBbhavu High School in Hibberdene on Monday (22nd).

His body was taken to the Port Shepstone mortuary.

Whether or not these drownings can be linked to Sunday’s flash flood can not be stated with absolute certainty.
