NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said thoughts and care are with the family and friends of the missing man in this difficult time.

A man has been reported missing, presumed drowned in the surf zone, between Hibberdene and Mfasazane on the KZN South Coast.

Glen Preston, NSRI Shelly Beach station commander, said duty crew were activated yesterday at around 17:30, following reports of the missing man.

NSRI Shelly Beach crew, Med-Evac ambulance services, Saps, and police search and rescue responded.

NSRI spokesman said an extensive search revealed no signs of the missing man, believed to be a 33 year old local, who had reportedly gone missing in the water at around 16:00.

Police search and rescue will continue in ongoing search efforts and Saps are investigating.
