‘We do not see this as a robbery,’ says family of 4 slain victims

The four victims have been identified.

Family members of the four people shot and killed during an alleged armed robbery in KwaDweshula on New Year’s Eve are not convinced the incident was merely a robbery. The shocking incident happened in the rural area some 40km inland of Port Shepstone.

Mother Grace Cele (69), son Scelo Cele (45) and daughters Lindokuhle Cele (44) and Nondumiso Cele (31), all died instantly when they were shot at their home late on Wednesday evening.

Speaking on behalf of the Cele family, Thulani Cele, said that, as a family, they hopes Saps would leave no stone unturned in its investigation.

He queried the attackers’ motives. “If is was a robbery, why shoot and kill the victims. Even shooting them multiple times does not indicate a robbery incident. We do not see this as a robbery.”
