It’s a win for Chery technician Paul de Beer of Uvongo
Paul de Beer has always been inspired to push boundaries.
Uvongo’s Paul de Beer (35) recently won the national Chery Technician of the Year award after a rigorous three-round judging process.
The first two rounds consisted of online tests, with the second under supervision. The final comprised practical tests on Chery vehicles, where he had to diagnose and carry out repairs from multiple complaints, within a time limit.
He will now compete in the global competition in China in November.
Paul first discovered that he enjoyed working with his hands and tools at the age of five, with his dad, Paul senior. Anything automotive interested him, especially solving a challenging problem.
He has worked at Garden City Motors Shelly Beach as a qualified diesel technician since 2016, however, he has been with the company since 2014. He has experience in both commercial and non-commercial vehicles, and is also a qualified Mercedes Benz systems and Mitsubishi diagnostics passenger technician.
“Our dealership adopted the Chery brand about three years ago and it has taken off. I am always inspired to push boundaries, and now I have the incredible honour to represent South Africa in China in the global competition.”
Last year, Paul entered the Mitsubishi Technician of the Year competition, which he won. “I love my job and no one day is the same. I thank Chery South Africa for their hospitality and amazing competition as well as Garden City Motors for this wonderful opportunity. Investing in staff is crucial for business success, which leads to increased customer satisfaction and ultimately better results,” said Paul.
When not working on vehicles, Paul loves spending time with his wife Zelmone and son Logan.
