Rugged Toyota Land Cruiser is built tough
Get behind the wheel of a Toyota Land Cruiser from Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach.
The Land Cruiser single and double cab bakkies and the Land Cruiser Prado represent two distinct branches of Toyota’s legendary off-roader line-up in South Africa.
The Land Cruiser 79 is a rugged, utilitarian workhorse now available at Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach in a tough single and double cab, while the Prado is a modern, luxurious 7-seater SUV built with advanced technology giving best of both worlds.
Land Cruiser single cab: It’s built to get you where you’re going, no matter where that is. All 79 models are all wheel drive and feature a 4-position 4-wheel drive transfer lever to give the driver maximum control.
Making its debut in the Land Cruiser 70 Series, is Toyota’s celebrated 2.8-litre four-cylinder GD diesel powerplant, cranking out 150kW of power between 3 000 and 3 400rpm and an effortless 500Nm of torque between 1 600 and 2 800rpm, which is exclusively paired with a lightweight, high-efficiency six-speed auto transmission and manual transmission.

It is also available in a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated diesel engine that delivers 94kW at 3 800rpm and 285Nm at 2 200rpm and a 4.0-litre petrol engine that puts out 170kW at 5 200rpm and torque of 360Nm at 3 800rpm. Whatever your preference, you can’t go wrong with the Master of Africa.
Land Cruiser Prado: Inspired by the heritage of generations of Land Cruisers, while incorporating the latest in technology, the Prado is truly masterful. It features a Toyota-lettered grille and slimline three-bulb LED headlamp unit. A bold, squared-off silhouette and bonnet featuring a scooped-out centre prioritises functionality by making it easier to recognise the vehicle’s dimensions and aids in road surface visibility. Moving to the rear, it has been similarly updated to incorporate visual elements which align with the legacy design direction, but with a healthy dash of simple modernity and component efficiency.
