Scottburgh Saps appeals to the public to be cautious when at a beach, river or dam and for children to be supervised at all times when near water.
“Swim at demarcated areas only and never enter the water after consuming alcohol,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.
“Remember that water may look shallow, but can be deep. We ask that you also comply with the instructions of lifeguards and do not swim when it’s dark.”
In a home environment, police ask parents and guardians to ensure that toddlers and young children are constantly supervised and water in containers are closed tightly.
