Vehicle ‘bombed’ in cash-in-transit heist near Leisure Bay

Exact details of what happened and how many were injured are awaited from Saps.

An armed robbery/cash-in-transit heist took place on the R61 in the vicinity of Leisure Bay this afternoon.

It is believed the vehicle was blown up/bombed. All emergency services were on the scene.

At the time, residents were advised to stay away and traffic was diverted.

Some residents living nearby said they heard what sounded like explosions, in addition to gun shots.

Unconfirmed reports have said one person was shot in the leg during the attack, with others injured.

A report from Saps is awaited to confirm the exact details of what happened.

The R61 from Ithongasi Caltex to Torquay turnoff was closed due to the incident.
