Hijacker sentenced to 12 years
He was arrested shortly after the incident with the assistance of the community.
Mabhelandile Cwele (24) was recently sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court to 12 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances
Half of the sentence has been suspended for five years.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
On September 13, a victim was hijacked at gunpoint at Sikhulu Ward in Harding where Cwele took his white Colt LDV and fled.
Cwele was arrested shortly thereafter with the assistance of the community for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sibu Ncane said he remained in police custody throughout his trial. The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Velenseni Cele of the Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit
