Protect your child online

A child's identity can be stolen or manipulated.

The Saps requests parents to be cautious when posting about their children (under the age of 18) online.

It must be noted that a child’s identity can be stolen or manipulated or even edited into pornographic sites. As per Saps, these images are often used by trafficking cartels.

Parents are also asked to pay attention to privacy settings on social media accounts. Remember, there are options as to whether or not your content can be viewed by the entire public, just your friends or just you.

Police ask parents to restrict who photos and videos are shared with – for the protection of the child.

And before uploading photos and videos of your child, police ask that you involve your child by asking them if they feel comfortable with that content shared online.
