Amandawe’s Christopher Phelelani Sphelele Ranana (33) was recently convicted and sentenced at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court to 15 years’ imprisonment for murder.
According to police, Ranana stabbed his neighbour, aged 65, to death after an argument on April 8, 2022. He was subsequently arrested.
The investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Njabulo Latha of Scottburgh Detective Services, handled the case, and on the day of sentencing, Ranana had both hearing and speech impediments.
The Ugu District Detective Commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya, was pleased with the sentencing, notwithstanding the fact that this case presented challenges in communicating with Ranana.
He further added that the community of Amandawe can be relieved that this notorious criminal has been removed from society.
