Illegal gun seized, man arrested

Umzinto Saps task team members received information about the suspect who was in the Mistake Farm area.

An Umzinto man was arrested last Saturday after being found in possession of an illegal firearm.

Umzinto Saps task team members received information about the 30-year-old suspect who was in the Mistake Farm area in Umzinto.

Once he was located, police seized a 9mm handgun and about 15 rounds of live ammunition.

He now faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police advise the public to be cautious when purchasing firearms so that they don’t become part of a criminal chain and to be more responsible and handle these weapons safely.

It is also an offence to use a firearm unlawfully, lose a firearm negligently, point a gun at someone and lend or rent out your legal firearm.
