Malangeni rapist receives life sentence

It took courage for the child to report the incident.

Mndeni Bheka Shozi has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of an eight-year-old.

His case was heard in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.

According to police, the child bravely reported the incident, which took place in Malangeni, to school authorities in May 2023.

The school contacted the social welfare departments, who called the police.

Shozi was promptly arrested, and he remained in police custody throughout the trial.

Detective Sergeant Sindisiwe Mkhize of Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) was the investigating officer.

Saps said that FCS units are dedicated to removing sexual predators from society and championing and obtaining justice for the defenceless and abused.

“Policing of crimes affecting women and children is of paramount importance to Saps and, together with the Department of Justice, the maximum punishment for offenders will be meted out.”
