Cop shot dead, fiancé in court

Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest.

Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi (34) was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his fiancée Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa (33).

Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested Mngqithi on November 25.

He briefly appeared in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody.

The case was postponed to December 3, for bail application.

Mbanjwa was sitting at her residence at Umzimkhulu when she was shot by an unknown suspect on April 11.

Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo of the Hawks said no one was present during the incident, and Mngqithi discovered Mbanjwa when he returned home later that evening.

The couple were both stationed at Umzimkhulu police station.

“A case of murder was reported at Umzimkhulu police station, and Hawks members attended the crime scene. A thorough investigation was conducted, positive leads were followed, and as a result, Mngqithi was arrested,” said Mhlongo.

The KZN Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona, welcomed the arrest and congratulated the members for their good work.
