Men charged with intimidation and extortion

Reports indicate that the men had previously been to the construction site on two occasions in November and threatened the workers.

Five men (aged between 30 and 52 years old) were arrested by KZN police last Wednesday (December 4) for intimidation and extortion at an Umzinto construction site.

Police were patrolling the area when they received reports of the crimes in progress at the site where there were renovations of a skills centre taking place.

It’s believed the men demanded that work should stop at the site.

Reports indicate that the men had previously been to the construction site on two occasions in November and threatened the workers, telling them that no work should be done until a meeting was held between the men and those responsible for the renovations.

The men then returned to the site last Wednesday, disrupting the work. Police responded quickly to calls for help.

The men appeared in the Vulamehlo Magistrate’s Court in Dududu.
