Off-duty officer shoots patron dead at Shelly Beach pub

The man has been arrested and charged for murder, said Saps.

An off-duty law enforcement officer has handed himself over to police after he fatally shot a bar patron in Shelly Beach yesterday (Wednesday) at about 21:00.

According to reports the victim and shooter, an off-duty Ray Nkonyeni Municipal Law Enforcement officer, got into an altercation.

It’s been reported that the fight broke out inside the bar area, in front of staff and patrons.

It is believed that the officer confronted the victim and shot him eight times, causing him to die instantly.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the scene and rapidly assessed him.

Spokesman Craig Botha said the man had succumbed to his injuries before emergency services could reach the scene.

Port Shepstone Saps has confirmed that a case of murder has been opened for investigation.

Saps said the officer had been arrested and charged, accordingly.
