Three nabbed for meat truck hijack

Once the suspects off loaded the meat into a smaller truck, community members looted what remained.

KZN police have arrested three people after a meat truck was hijacked on the N2 near the Clansthal bridge recently.

Information received from Umkomaas Saps states that the victim alleges that while driving with his passengers with a truckload of meat, they were accosted by three men with firearms, driving a white Toyota Etios.

The hijacked truck was then escorted to Amandawe near Scottburgh, and some of the meat was loaded into a smaller truck.

“Some community members looted the balance of the contents in the truck,” said Umkomaas Saps communications officer Ranjith Rampersad.

“The victims were then left in a dense field and had to walk and seek help from police.”

Shortly thereafter, swift action by police, K9 and various roleplayers resulted in the arrest of three suspects.

Two trucks, meat and the Toyota Etios were recovered.

Umkomaas Saps station commander Colonel Mbongeni Mngadi commends all roleplayers.

“Their dedication to unravelling high-profile cases is noted, and every effort will be made to combat hijackings within the precinct.”
