Margate rapist gets 15 years

The woman's rapist was arrested as she was able to positively identify him.

Nhlakanipho Cyril Yalo (28) was recently sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment after he raped a woman (50) in her Margate home in 2020.

Bail was repeatedly denied, and he remained in custody throughout the trial held in the Port Shepstone Regional Court.

The woman was asleep at her residence in Mankuntshane area in Margate on November 29, 2020, when she was suddenly awoken by an intruder.

He began assaulting her and, using a knife, threatened her to be silent.

He then raped her and left after taking some of her personal belongings.

She opened a case of rape and house robbery at Saps Margate. Yalo was arrested, as the victim was able to positively identify him.

The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Joel Shezi of Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
