Margate cops bust drug seller at Mpenjati Bridge

The public is commended for reporting criminal activities.

A tip-off led Margate police to arrest a man (33) walking on the N61 near Mpenjati Bridge on Tuesday last week.

Police searched the man and found him in possession of mandrax tablets and heroin capsules.

On the same day, police again received information of a man who was selling a firearm in Uvongo.

On searching him, a pistol and live rounds were discovered.

The man (51) was arrested as he could not produce a firearm licence, and was charged accordingly.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine if it was used to commit other crimes.

Saps Ugu District Communications said the public is commended for reporting criminal activities which lead to successful arrests and convictions.

“They (public) continue to be the eyes and ears for the Saps as only together can we fight crime with partnerships with local businesses, CPF structures and other law enforcement agencies.”

Drugs confiscated.
