• Implement a livestock register. A good suggestion is to take clear photos, especially of animals with distinctive markings.
• Report all livestock theft incidents to the nearest police station as soon as possible.
• Brand mark your livestock according to the Animal Identification Act.
• Report stray animals to the local municipality or police station.
• Work closely with your local police and stock theft units.
• Ensure your kraal or holding areas are secure and properly fenced.
• Livestock left out to graze should be monitored throughout the day by a reliable person.
