Life sentenced for fatal assault on partner

According to police, the man (51) assaulted his girlfriend with his hands and stones, which then resulted in her death.

The Scottburgh Regional Court recently sentenced Funowakhe Alois Koya (51) of Mgayi area in Sawoti to life imprisonment for murder.

On the evening of November 24 last year, Koya brutally assaulted his 25-year-old girlfriend.

According to police, he assaulted her with his hands and stones, which then resulted in her death.

A case of murder was assigned to Detective Sergeant Mfanelo Mchunu of Sawoti Detective Service. Investigations were carried out and Koya was arrested in Dumisa.

Bail was denied and he was detained throughout his trial proceedings.

Koya was sentenced on September 18, and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
