Speedsters nabbed on N2 at Park Rynie

A farmer was arrested for clocking 199km/h in a 120km zone.

The Park Rynie Road Traffic Inspectorate team continues to arrest speedsters and reckless drivers across the province, while executing the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation to ensure safer roads this festive season.
Several motorists were arrested by the no-nonsense team last week.

These included:
• A farmer was arrested for clocking 199km/h in a 120km/h zone.
• A medical doctor for driving 181km/h in a Ford Ranger Raptor.
• An attorney travelling at 175km/h in a VW Golf.
• A regional store manager driving at 170km/h in a White Toyota Corolla Cross.

Speedsters are warned to abide by the rules of the road.

The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, said law and order is being restored across all corners of the province.

“We have introduced the Average Speed-Over-Distance in various road networks and strategically placed two cameras. One at the beginning and one at the end of a designated road stretch,” he said.

“The cameras capture the vehicle’s presence at each location, allowing the system to calculate the time it took to travel the distance. We are investing in this technology as part of ending fatalities on our roads, which are caused by speeding and reckless driving.”

“The RTI will have no mercy. We are cleaning up our road networks, restoring law and order, and ensuring the safety of road users as guided by the National Road Traffic Act.”
