Two men shot dead in Mtwalume
KZN MEC for Social Development, Mbali Shinga visited the families.
Sboniso Wiseman Mteshane (31)and Kwazi Hebert Gumede (33), also known as Sipho, were shot dead at their home in KwaBangibizo, Mtwalume last Sunday, a few hours after an altercation.
Police were contacted for comment on the incident, but none was received at the time of going to press.
The victims’ aunt, Nokulunga Mteshane, said the family had attended a ceremony. Due to the state of the road, the taxis they had hired were unable drop them off at home, instead they were dropped off on the main road.
While they were walking home, the driver of a bakkie nearly knocked down a family member.
“Sipho had an altercation with the driver, but nothing happened at the time and we all went to our homes. At about 23:00, I received a call that the the boys had been shot.”

According to the aunt, Sboniso was not present when the argument took place, but he was unfortunately shot.
She said her nephews were good boys, hard working and respectful.
“We were expecting a lot from them because we could see they had a bright future. Sipho died on the scene and Sboniso died in hospital.
KZN MEC for Social Development, Mbali Shinga visited the Mteshane home on Monday, where she strongly condemned the incident.
“These incidents have not only robbed families of their loved ones, but has also traumatised an entire community. These tragedies have left the people of Umzumbe reeling. The rising levels of violence in our communities are deeply concerning and require a united response from government, law enforcement, civil society, faith-based organisations and community members.”
