Fifty motorists were arrested for drunk driving in the mid-South Coast last Friday.
This was carried out by Park Rynie Road Traffic Inspectorate in Park Rynie, Umzinto and Scottburgh.
Charges were then laid at Scottburgh Saps.
The KZN Department of Transport has been enforcing the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation throughout the province, in an effort to keep roads safe in numerous towns, and remove reckless drivers from endangering others behind the wheel.
As per the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, the department is now currently busy with inspections of scholar transport by RTI and Operation Shanela.

The team of inspectors are visiting more than 26 satellite stations in all corners of the province.
“Our main focus is to ensure the safety of about 77 000 learners in about 400 schools,” explained Duma.
“The inspection is focusing on driver permits, tyres, brakes, seatbelts, suspension, and the condition of the vehicle.”
So far, 198 fleets have been inspected. This includes 143 buses, 48 minibuses, and seven midibuses.
“We commend service providers of scholar transport who have ensured the roadworthiness of their fleet.”
Based on the report from the Public Transport Enforcement Service’s Operation Shanela, 63 fleets have failed the inspection. This includes 43 buses, 18 minibuses and two midibuses.
The owners have been instructed to attend to all mechanical failures as stipulated in the contract with the department.
Duma reassures communities that RTI and Operation Shanela will work with other law enforcement agencies and traffic departments in various municipalities, they will do spot checks and sustain their visibility as witnessed during the festive season.
