Teenage girl shot dead in Louisiana

Port Shepstone police are investigating.

The murder of a teenage girl in Louisiana last Sunday morning has shocked the community.

Slindile Cele (16), a Grade 10 learner at Sozabe High at KwaMadlala location, was allegedly fatally shot by her 34-year-old boyfriend, Sabelo Madlala, who was later also found dead.

Police responded to the initial scene and found Cele with a fatal gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Community members of Louisiana gather at the scene where the body of Sabelo Madlala was found.

The Saps Ugu Communications District office said the community of Louisiana and Saps Port Shepstone K9 Search and Rescue, Port Shepstone Detectives and other key role-players searched the area for the suspect.

“After a 3km search by Saps K9, the body of Madlala was found near a river with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. An inquest has been opened for investigation at Saps Port Shepstone and preliminary investigations indicate the possibility of a murder and suicide,” said police.

The teenager’s mother, Khumbuzile Cele (63), said according to her knowledge there were no problems between her daughter and her boyfriend.

She said her daughter had gone out to hand clothing to her sister’s boyfriend, who would then take them to her sister who was in hospital.

However, she was alerted that a dead person had been found by a man who was herding goats.
“We rushed to the scene and discovered it was her. She was already dead. We do not know what led to her being shot,” she said.

She added her daughter had high hopes of becoming a police officer, but those dreams are now shattered.
On hearing that Madlala was found dead with a bullet wound, her reaction was simple: “I am happy that he is dead.”
