Husband jailed for attempted murder
The infamous story which unfolded in Umzinto, Ifafa and Winklespruit has come to a conclusion two years later.
Justice has finally been served to a KZN woman, Sarika Bridgmohan, two years after her attempted murder orchestrated by her husband, Ramith Aneerudh (38).
This elaborate and infamous 2024 attempted murder plot unfolded across several areas in KZN, including Umzinto, Ifafa and Winklespruit.
Aneerudh of Newlands West pleaded guilty to attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and theft, and was sentenced by the Umbumbulu Regional Court to 25 years’ imprisonment last Friday.

The court ordered that the additional sentences run concurrently with the 25-year sentence.
As per Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), on March 13, 2024, Aneerudh lured his wife to a secluded area in Winklespruit, under the pretext of collecting documents from an attorney.
Thereafter, two accomplices confronted Bridgmohan and allegedly strangled her with a rope before placing her into another vehicle. Believing she was dead after she lost consciousness, the suspects drove towards the Ifafa area where they intended to dispose of her body.
The victim later regained consciousness and jumped from the moving vehicle. She sustained bodily injuries before flagging down passing motorists for assistance.
On April 14, Bridgmohan contacted RUSA requesting assistance to locate the suspects. She initially received death threats not to pursue the case, and believed that another attempt would be made to murder her if the suspects were not caught without delay. This is when the news broke on social media, making this infamous story viral in attempts to locate the suspects.
RUSA officers initiated an investigation and recovered the woman’s white GWM vehicle in a remote part of Umzinto on April 15.
Information received thereafter indicated that the suspects had fled the province.
Officers travelled about 560km to Coffee Bay in the Eastern Cape, where they kept observation over a home on the side of a mountain.
On the afternoon of April 16, officers located Aneerudh and two other accomplices hiding in a house and arrested them. Rope, a panga and knives were found in their possession. They were detained by Coffee Bay Saps.
A fourth suspect was later arrested by police in Umzinto on April 24.
RUSA stated that Aneerudh’s sentence has brought the matter to a conclusion, and cases against the remaining accused are expected to continue before the courts.
