Scottburgh District Court jails housebreakers

Both were nabbed after being linked via fingerprints at the crime scenes.

Thobani Stembiso Mngadi (31) was handed a 15-year sentence at the Scottburgh District Court for housebreaking and theft.

On November 26, 2021, a woman left her Umzinto residence for the day, and on her return discovered that someone had entered the house through a bathroom window.

A laptop and cash were stolen.

Fingerprints found at the scene assisted Saps detectives to locate and arrest Mngadi. It was also established that Mngadi had previously been convicted of housebreaking with intent to steal.

The matter was finalised on March 31, and Mngadi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

In a separate Scottburgh case, Sphamandla Mbambo (27) was sentenced on March 26 to three counts of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft.

He was linked by means of fingerprints on multiple scenes and arrested by police on February 27. He received three-years imprisonment on each count.

The investigating officer in both cases was Detective Warrant Officer Deena Govender of the Umzinto Detective Service.
