Speedster with criminal record sentenced in Scottburgh
Bhekumuzi Protas Dube was fined R40 000 or 12 months in prison.
Park Rynie’s RTI team continues to carry out Operation #NenzaniLaEzweni which is known for ridding the South Coast of speedsters.
In the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, Bhekumuzi Protas Dube was fined R40 000 or 12 months in prison, half suspended for five years for speeding.
Dube drove his VW Golf 8 at 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone in the Park Rynie RTI jurisdiction this year.
His licence was also suspended.
This arrest and sentencing led RTI and the KZN Department of Transport to discover that Dube already has a criminal record.
In January 2015, he was arrested with two others after they were caught stripping a Toyota Avanza that had been stolen in Berea. He was found in possession of car-breaking implements such as ignition switches, an angle grinder, sanding machine, compressor, items used to panel-beat and spray paint stolen vehicles, and a dye stamp punch set that is used to print a false engine number after the original has been filed off.
MEC Siboniso Duma praised RTI and the courts for helping fix the country, and removing criminals from roads.
