Heartbreak over Port Edward woman’s murder
A case of murder and robbery has been opened for investigation at Saps Port Edward.
The Port Edward community is reeling from the sad news of the death of local resident, Gail Sink (79).
The alarm was raised on on May 17 when Sink didn’t arrive for a family lunch.
The security services and Saps were notified. Her purse and some belongings were missing from her house.
According to Saps Ugu District Communications, Sink was found dead at her home in Bonvista Road.
“On searching, her body was discovered on the property. A case of murder and robbery has been opened at Saps Port Edward for investigation. The cause of death is yet to be determined, and no arrests have been made,” said police.
She was a person who lived her life to the full, she had a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious laugh. “She was kind, loved her family and friends passionately, and was special to many friends and family. She will be sorely missed,” said her niece, Kim Strachan.
“The Port Edward community is heartbroken by the loss of a beautiful soul. Gail Sink will be greatly missed,” said Ward 1 councillor, Stephanie Breedt.
Sink grew up in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. Her parents sold the property to the government about 50 years ago for the Magwa Tea project.
She lived in Port St John’s for 35 years and was passionate about the upliftment of the locals and started a business called ‘Pondo People’. The locals made baskets and beadwork and Sink marketed the products.
Sink leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Trevor and Merle Strachan and sister Susan Perry. Although she had no children, she was close to her nieces and nephews – Kim Strachan, Robyn Wynne, Brett and Beth Strachan and Gregory Wynne.
