No bail for Amahlongwa father who raped and murdered daughter

Sihle Ntshiza's next court appearance is in July.

Bail has been opposed for Sihle Ntshiza, the father accused of raping and murdering his biological daughter Snesihle Khathi (6) from Amahlongwa, Plazini area in April.

Ntshiza appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on June 11 for his bail application. During this time, he still claimed that he had been framed.

The State opposed bail, with investigating officer Detective Sergeant Shanon Ramlall of the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit presenting information before the court.

Ramlall highlighted the seriousness of crimes involving violence against women and children, and the devastating impact such offences have on victims, families and communities.

The court was informed that the matter falls under a Schedule 6 offence of Section 60 (11) (a) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977. In such cases, the accused bears the responsibility of proving exceptional circumstances exist that justify release on bail in the interests of justice.

According to Dawn Gounden from Renegades Search and Rescue and spokesperson for the Khathi family, the decision to deny bail has been welcomed by the community.

“Community members, activists and concerned residents once again stood together in unison for little Snesihle. Their presence served as a powerful reminder that communities will continue to speak out against violence and demand accountability through the justice system,” said Gounden.

“While the outcome relates only to the issue of bail, the community members expressed relief that the court considered the seriousness of the matter in reaching its decision. The community remains committed to being the voice for little Snesihle, and her cries will not be forgotten, her memory will not be erased, and her story will continue to inspire the fight against violence affecting women and children.”

Ntshiza remains in custody until his next appearance next month.
