KwaZulu-Natal police have offered a R50 000 reward for information that could assist in locating seven-year-old Lathitha Mtolo, who has been missing since February.

Lathitha was last seen by friends in the Marikana area of Kokstad on February 26.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Lathitha’s whereabouts have remained unknown since her disappearance.

A 33-year-old man was previously arrested and charged in connection with the case after he was allegedly caught and assaulted by community members.

According to Netshiunda, the man reportedly confessed under duress that he had kidnapped Lathitha and handed her over to another man, who allegedly took her to an unknown location.

However, the kidnapping docket was not enrolled in court because of insufficient evidence.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of Lathitha or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance to come forward,” said Netshiunda.
