Biker killed near Uvongo bridge, motorist arrested on drunk driving charge

The road was closed off while emergency services attended to the crash scene.

A motorcyclist was killed near the Uvongo bridge on Marine Drive last night, September 1 at about 22:30.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the driver (28) was arrested and charged for drunk driving and culpable homicide.

He will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s court soon.

Shawn Herbst, of Netcare 911, said the driver of the motorcycle was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Mpinge said motorcyclist has not been identified and that no one in the vehicle was injured.
