Chamber of commerce celebrates women

South Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry encourages business to take up membership at women's breakfast

The South Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) commemorated Women’s Month by celebrating and acknowledging women at an event, ‘women empowerment and supporting local women-owned businesses’ at Aura in Margate last Friday.

Several speakers took to the podium to offer advice and encouragement.

Among them was Shamin Maharaj, a pharmacist and practice manager who is the past president of the Port Shepstone Rotary Club, and also an active member of Tidy Towns Port Shepstone which makes a huge difference in the upkeep of the town.

Pumzile Mbambo also a local businesswoman spoke on the importance of business missions and vision statements and understanding the importance of how your mission statement should be incorporated into your business.

The leadership qualities of these women entrepreneurs have been recognised and impact the local community in a positive way

The president of the SCCCI, Dick Basday said: “The chamber encourages women-owned businesses to join as members. We are currently implementing projects to empower businesses through mentorship funding and finance including exposure and networking with like-minded women, “Basday added.

He had also said that the chamber believes in supporting local businesses first.
