Tourism imbizo focuses on growth

Different stakeholders attended to let people know what they provide and how they can help businesses.

The South Coast has been receiving visits from various MECs and ministers recently, one of them being the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Fish Mahlalela.

Mahlalela said one of the reasons he visited Ugu was to share what the government is doing, to get feedback from the people and what the people think the government is not doing well.

Speaking at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre last Thursday, Mahlalela said they brought various entities together, to explain how people can be part of the Sho’t Left tourism campaign.

“We need people to know how they can contribute towards the tourism grading which is important for the sector.”
Stakeholders and entities such as South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), Sector Education and Training Authorities (Seta), Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa) and National Empowerment Fund (NEF) were present.
People were also given an opportunity to participate and speak about the help they need in terms of growing their businesses.

Nontombikhaya Hlongwane from Mtwalume said that currently she is doing her in-service training at Ntelezi Msani.

Nontombikhaya Hlongwane from Mtwalume has her say.

“I would like to see the tourism sector opening more job opportunities for young people because we have qualifications, but we don’t get jobs.”
Mahlalela said the department will try and intervene in the challenges that people are facing.
He also mentioned that he was glad that most of the people who attended the imbizo, were the youth.
