Rotary Club of Port Shepstone’s dominoes challenge topples expectations

It is hoped to grow the annual event in the years ahead, giving even more schools, youth groups and community organisations the opportunity to take part.

The 2026 Dominoes Challenge brought teamwork, creativity and plenty of excitement to Marburg Secondary School Hall, where three local teams gathered for the much-anticipated Topple Day after weeks of fundraising and planning.

Organised as a Rotary Club of Port Shepstone fundraising initiative, teams secured sponsorship at R10 per domino before designing and building their own colourful domino displays.

The biggest achievement of the day belonged to Marburg Secondary which raised the highest sponsorship in Rotary District 9370, earning almost 2 500 dominoes to construct its display.

The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Youth team raised enough sponsorship for 640 dominoes, while the Port Shepstone Girl Guides created an impressive display using close to 500 dominoes.

Rotary thanked volunteers, sponsors and supporters whose enthusiasm helped make the event a success.

A special appreciation was also extended to Colin Hegter, the visionary behind the initiative, who travelled to attend the event. His aim was to create a fundraiser that was both enjoyable and rewarding, proving that fundraising can build friendships, encourage teamwork and strengthen communities.
