Southcity collects plastic bottle tops

The bottle tops will be taken to Margate Furnishers which is the local depot on the South Coast.

One person’s trash can be another’s treasure. All the plastic bottle tops we throw away could help a person with a disability to access a new wheelchair.

Some 450kg of plastic bottle tops are needed for a wheelchair to be donated. Wheelchairs should be a fundamental human right, and any person that requires one should have one.

To this end, the Plastic Bottle Top Challenge took place among Grade 10, 11 and 12 classes at Southcity Christian Schools. An extraordinary amount of 9.5kg of bottle tops was collected between January and March this year, with Grade 12V collecting the most.

The bottle tops will be taken to Margate Furnishers which is the local depot on the South Coast. From there they will be sent to Durban and sold to various waste recycling companies, to raise funds for wheelchairs.
