‘Passed out’ mother leaves baby boy on roadside

The infant was wet and had become dirtied with mud.

Lazer 911 control centre received a call during loadshedding from a resident in Vale Road, Sea Park informing them of an infant crying in the area.

Lazer reaction units were informed and immediately started patrolling and searching the area and bush nearby.

Officers located the crying infant, a boy, sitting next to his mother, who was intoxicated and who had passed out on the road.

The boy was wet and had become dirtied with mud.

Officers immediately took the boy inside the van to keep him warm with the heater.

Saps was informed and dispatched to meet the officers at Sayidi Superette.

The Sea Park Community Crime Watch group responded, with one of its WhatsApp group members immediately providing dry clothes and food for the infant, while waiting for Saps to arrive.

As Saps arrived so did the boy’s father, who took him into his care.

The mother was handed-over to Saps.

Lazer 911 thanked all the kind individuals who assisted them.
