New police officers welcomed to Ugu
The new police officers will be assigned to various stations across the district.
Ugu District’s Saps leadership welcomed new police officers at a ceremony at St Martin’s De Porres sports field recently.
Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, Ugu District commander addressed the recruits on the way forward.
Nxamagele encouraged them to respect the Saps brand and their badges. She said after their training, they are now expected to perform their duties.
She said the main mandate of the police service is to protect the community and to fight crime. “There are other important aspects of being a policeman or woman. Respect your uniform. For the female members who wear nail polish, the only acceptable colours are red and pink, said Nxamagele.
She said another important thing is that the recruits should be cautious of their behaviour, on duty and off duty.
“In college, recruits are taught how to conduct themselves professionally, this included etiquette, using and carrying a firearm and abuse of state vehicles and resources. These are serious offences in the force. We have had incidents of policemen drinking in taverns and killing each other with state firearms. It is unacceptable, “said Nxamagele.
She urged the recruits to avoid such incidents as it gave the public a bad impression of the Saps.
Ugu District Saps spokesperson, Captain Adam Francis said the new constables will be utilised during the festive season, to ensure police visibility.
“The constables will be present in shopping malls, at beaches and during roadblocks. We welcome them to the force and wish them a successful career, “said Francis.
