Bible washes up: message of hope amid storm

Geraldine, who runs an NPO helping those in need, said she feels the message is on point for the community.

Silver linings and messages of hope can sometimes be found if you look hard enough.

But occasionally, they present themselves in unlikely fashion, like finding a bible on a tree stump among storm debris.

Geraldine Moatshe of Uvongo believes the discovery last week is a message from God in these difficult times.

”My mom Helen spotted the bible when she visited the ruins left by the flood on April 14, but she left it there and didn’t take any note of the message. When she returned home, I was informed about it and my husband Neo (aka Poshie) and I went to see if we could find it.”

They were delighted to find the bible in the exact spot it washed up after the storm, perched perfectly on a log, open to Isaiah chapters 49 to 51.

It was almost as though someone had been sitting there reading it, and then left it for someone to find.

The Afrikaans bible had, in all likelihood, been washed away from the nearby Doxa church when the flash flood struck Margate on the night of April 14.

Geraldine, who runs an NPO helping those in need, said she feels the message is on point for the community.

”I’m not a pastor, but feel the message was left for us, sent by God. For us, it’s a testimony, indeed.”

”It’s unreal to find a bible like this, but it’s real, and I am so blessed to share,” she said.

”What’s on my heart to share is to say do not store up treasures on earth, and repent now, as this storm was sent for a reason. We have forgotten the Creator. We are living life as if there is no God.”

The bible was found neatly position on a log, open to Isaiah chapters 49 to 51.

She added: “Focus on Christ. Don’t get distracted by injustice, money, work, possession, power and pleasure.”

Geraldine and Neo, originally from Rustenburg in the North West, have founded NPO Lerato’s Love House since moving to the coast.

”We try to help where possible, giving shelter and food to the needy and those living on the streets.”

”We believe God’s leading the way forward, to bring change to the South Coast, in terms of those on the streets living in poverty.”

The washed up, drenched, bible.
