New hounds join Sheppie’s K9 unit

These dogs will provide added support to the Ugu District in curbing crime.

Two new dogs have joined the Port Shepstone K9 unit.

These special working dogs join the robust team of members who continually provide added support to the Ugu District in curbing crime.

Zigi, a Labrador, is an explosives detection dog that joined the team at the end of March, and his handler is Sergeant Khumbulani Ngcobo, who has also completed an explosives dog handler’s course.

Maveric, a Belgium Shepherd, is a patrol dog, and his handler is Sergeant Jaquelina Marais, who finished the dog handler’s course at the end of March.

Unit Commander Captain Mandla Chiya stated that they are presently in need of dogs to be trained and is certain that the two new dogs will assimilate well at the unit.
