Lots of sardine activity on the KZN South Coast but nothing netted yet

Seine netters are anxiously waiting for the silver fish.

According to seine netters earlier today, there are lots of sardine activity from Margate to the Wild Coast.

In  Port Edward, it was a close call, but netters never got to claim the first shoal this morning.

Seine netters are around the coast and are anxiously waiting for the silver fish which are out there, but they can’t get their boats out due to rough sea conditions.

This natural phenomenon called the Sardine Run happens every year in the winter months, starting in June and often through to August.

Experienced Durban netter, Goolam Fareed said there are several pockets of sardines along the KZN coastline from Margate through to the Wild Coast.

“We have a lot of fish coming through. Transkei has  a lot of activity with birds, dolphins and whales. We have a long run and hopefully by tomorrow morning (Sunday) we should net,” he said.
