Ugu District Municipality launched its first batch of employees for its War on Leaks Project at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on September 7.

According to Ugu, this initiative forms part of the municipality’s intensified drive to reduce water losses, protect critical water infrastructure and create meaningful opportunities for local communities.

Speaking at the launch, Ugu mayor Sikhumbuzo Mqadi said the project demonstrates the municipality’s determination to turn challenges into action.

“The War on Leaks is about protecting every drop of water while creating opportunities for our people. Today we are putting boots on the ground and strengthening our fight against water losses across the district.”

Municipal manager Vela Mazibuko emphasised that the programme will also strengthen the municipality’s operational response and contribute towards improved service delivery.

“This project is about action, accountability and results. By strengthening our capacity on the ground, we are taking another important step towards reducing water losses and building a more efficient and sustainable water services system.”
