JUST IN: Margate and Port Edward beaches remain closed to swimming [WATCH]

All the other KZN South Coast beaches are open.

All KZN South Coast beaches are open for bathing and recreational activities, except Margate and Port Edward.

Bathing was banned along the South Coast from Port Edward to Isipingo last month (June) when the KZN Sharks Board removed all shark nets from beaches for the Sardine Run.

Margate’s Nkongweni River has been contaminated with sewage since April 2024.

This is according to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s spokesperson, Simon April who reported that Port Edward beach is closed due to shark nets not having been serviced by the KZN Sharks Board, while Margate beach remains closed due to sewage contamination since the floods in April.

“All other beaches under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality are open,” he said.
