By-elections for Ward 15 today

Voting for Umdoni's Ward 15 will take place at Scottburgh High School and Scottburgh Pre-Primary School until 21:00.

It’s time for Umdoni’s Ward 15 residents (Scottburgh) to make their mark in the by-elections today (Wednesday).

The vacancy arose after former ward councillor Shara Singh was appointed as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the DA.

She was elected to the National Assembly in the 2024 general election.

“Over the last eight years, I have had the honour of serving our community and working to address our shared concerns. Now, it’s time for a new leader to build on the progress we have made,” she said.

The DA’s candidate is Dana Daniels who is well-known in the Scottburgh area and surrounds.
She is the chairperson of the Scottburgh Athletic Club and has had a lot of experience in sales over the years.

“I’ve seen first-hand the current municipality’s neglect despite the best efforts and hard work of DA councillors.

The outgoing councillor has left big shoes to fill, but I look forward to advocating for our community’s voice to be heard and driving positive change to revitalise our town,” said Daniels.

The ANC candidate is Maduramuthoo Saminadan Govender, well-known as Thumba.

He is currently the chairman of Park Rynie Lifesaving Club, the Diwali Group, a member of Scottburgh Community Policing Forum and an ex-member of Park Rynie Crime Watch.

“I always have the interests of the community in mind, and I choose to be the candidate for a party that fought for freedom and democracy in South Africa,” said Govender.

“Together, we can make a change.”
