By elections: New councillors for Wards 14 and 24 [Watch]

The IEC's Ugu District manager, Zolile KaSiphiwo, said no incidents were reported.

The long-awaited by elections for Wards 14 and 24 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality were held yesterday (Wednesday).

It has also bagged the MK a seat in the municipality.

In Ward 14, Thamsanqa ‘Pat’ Madlala was the MK candidate having replaced Sabelo Malunga who resigned from the ANC and joined the MK.

Madlala received 1457 votes, Vumani Mlungisi Madlala of the IFP received 231 votes and the ANC’s Wonderboy Shinga received 1117.

In Ward 24, Thabiso Jingela from the ANC won the ward. Jingela replaces Nkosinamandla Ndlela who recently died after a short illness.

He received 1269 votes, Sbonelo Mbhele of the IFP received 994 and Themba Zondi of MK received 1091.
