Port Shepstone museum not closed

The public is advised about the closing and re-opening hours through notices displayed at the entrance.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has confirmed that the Port Shepstone Maritime Museum is still open.

The museum, which is on the Port Shepstone beachfront, opened in October 2018. The concept behind the facility was to grow the appreciation of the local heritage, history and tourism.

However, the Herald recently fielded calls from residents saying that when they visited, it was closed.

Nomusa Zulu, the acting municipal spokesperson, said that due to the condition of the damaged roof, it became necessary to close to the public during heavy rain.

“This is for the protection of both museum artefacts as well as for the safety of patrons. The public is advised about the closing and re-opening hours through notices displayed at the entrance,” said Zulu.

She said the municipality is in the process of liaising with insurers for the repairs to the roof.
