Rubbish piles up in KwaMasinenge

Children have been seen playing near the refuse site.

Uvongo’s Martine Blackler is concerned that refuse has been piling up in KwaMasinenge for months, with rubbish skips overflowing.

She drives past the area regularly and has noticed that the skips have not been collected by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM).

Also, she has reported the eyesore to the municipality and has received a reference number, but nothing has been done.

“It’s not the first time that refuse has not been collected for this long in this area. I’ve reported it before; they cleaned up and replaced the skips.”

Blackler is worried that the site has become a health hazard.

“I have seen children playing close to the refuse and dogs and pigs rummaging around.”

RNM spokesperson Simon April said it is incorrect that refuse hasn’t been picked up in months.

“There may have been delays in picking up due to labour issues being experienced by the municipality in recent weeks.”

He added that the management of the relevant department is working on a plan to address affected services.
