eThekwini speeds up efforts to restore water supply

The public is urged to use water sparingly.

eThekwini Municipality is expediting the installation of a new pump at the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) Booster Pumpstation following a fault on one of the existing pumps.

The fault has led to the reduced flow of water to areas in the south supplied by the SCA – including Toti Water Treatment Works pumping and gravity systems.

The SCA has been shut down from this morning (December 12) for the installing of a new pump.

This work is expected to be completed in the afternoon.

As per the municipality, pumping of water will resume, but the restoration of full water supply may take about three days depending on consumption demand.

Affected areas (south reservoirs): Umkhomazi, Craigeburn, Amahlongwa, Amalundi, Crowder Farm, Quarry Heights, Scottburgh, Kwamakhutha, Mkhazini, Mbongotwini, Adams Mission, Fakazi, KwaMgendwa, Ohlongeni, Ekuphileni, Mahlathini, Umnini, Magabheni, Ehlanzeni, Thoyane, Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital, 10 AECI African Explosives and Chemical Industries, Garden Lots, Ezimbokodweni and Southgate Industrial Park, Athlone Park, Lewis Drive, Amanzimtoti CBD, Almond, Kingsburgh, Lower Illovo, Illovo Beach, Doonside, Illovo, Panorama, Umgababa, Amagcino, Mgobhozini, Mfume, Kwakhanyile, Kwasoni, Mashiwase, Nkwali, Lovu and Bhekulwandle.
