Much-loved couple, Peter Hulley (61) and his wife, Monika (nee Lindau) (62), both lost their lives in a fire which broke out in their Southport home last week Sunday.
Police have opened an inquest case for investigation, after they died due to serious burn wounds.
The community is reeling from the tragic incident.
The home where the couple and their family lived was reduced to ashes, and everything they owned, furniture and belongings were lost in the fire.
Monika was a retired school teacher who taught at Izotsha Primary for many years, and Peter was a multi-skilled tradesperson (handyman and mechanic) and a talented woodworker.
Peter loved to spend time fishing, and locals have now named a particular set of rocks at Sunwich Port after him.
The popular fishing spot was formerly known as ‘High Rock’ but a fishing group called ‘The Fishing Boys’ has decided that it will henceforth be called ‘Peter’s Rock’ as that was the only place he fished. Peter was there most mornings with the regular fishermen.
The couple leave behind three children, Sharon, Darren and Terrence and two grandchildren, Amber and Skye.
Sharon said the couple were always together, and no matter what, they did everything together.
“They loved each other so much, and we will miss them terribly,” she said.
